Shiny object syndrome can be so real. I remember when I first started in the online business world. I signed up for EVERYTHING that was free that I thought could move my business forward. People seem to be offering the solution to every problem I was having with getting started and growing my business. However, when it came down to it most of these freebies were total flops. They not only did nothing to help grow my business but also ended up filling up and cluttering my inbox. There were a few gems in there of course but it was only when I got serious about what I needed that I was able to push past the other shiny objects to get the one that mattered.

Know Your Priorities

Know what your priorities are. Let’s assume that filtering through your inbox after signing up for 50 different free things that you are determined will change your life isn’t really your priority in life. Focus on whatever those priorities are so you can have a clear vision of what you need to do. Maybe you want to retire your spouse. Be home so you can spend more time with your kids. Be debt free and travel the world. Whatever it is keep it in mind when you are thinking of your goals and what is really going to make a difference in your life and business.

Think of your Goals

With all the freebies out there that have big promises to solve all your problems it is so important to keep your goals in mind. Take a minute to go over your goals. Figure out what problems you are going to face and see what resources you might actually need. If you are going to be creating a course and need help on how to put it all together then you probably don’t need to be signing up for those free offers related to discovery calls for 1-on-1 clients. Will you need something like that in the future? Maybe, but you can wait to dig into that information when you get to that point in your business.

Figure out what is most important in your business

This one kind of goes along with my last point on thinking about your goals. You don’t need to be signing up for every shiny object that comes around just because you might need it “eventually”. This just leads to an inbox full of things you think you are going to read but probably won’t. When you are thinking of your goals you can get laser focused in your business and know what is the most important thing to focus on right now. Find something that can help you with the one thing you need help with right now and leave the rest alone!
